Turkish Bath in Antalya: How to Choose, What to Expect and a Hammam in Kemer

A Turkish bath is on almost every Antalya holiday list. Warm marble, the kese scrub, clouds of foam and the deep relaxation that follows make it one of the most special moments of a Mediterranean trip. How do you choose a hammam in Antalya, what happens inside, and do you need to go to the city if you are staying in Kemer? Here is our guide.

Antalya and Hammam Culture

For centuries the hammam in Anatolia has been more than a place to wash: it is where people rest, talk and celebrate special occasions. Antalya's old town, Kaleiçi, has historic hammams that carry this tradition, and today both historic baths and hammams inside modern spas serve visitors across the city and the resort areas.

What Happens in a Turkish Bath?

1. Warm Up

It starts with warming the body. A few minutes in the sauna, steam room or on the heated marble stone opens the pores and prepares the skin for the scrub.

2. Kese Scrub

The whole body is scrubbed with a textured mitt to remove dead skin. Tell your therapist if you would like it gentler or firmer.

3. Foam Massage

Rich foam is spread over your body and you are washed with a light massage, usually everyone's favourite part.

4. Rinse and Rest

After a warm rinse you rest with water or tea, and can continue with an oil massage if you like.

Read every step in detail in our Turkish bath guide.

How to Choose a Hammam in Antalya

  • Hygiene: clean mitts and towels for every guest and a regularly cleaned space come first.
  • Clear prices: the package contents and duration should be clear in advance, with no surprise extras.
  • Duration: a quick scrub and foam is very different from a package with sauna, steam and massage; ask what is included.
  • Location and hours: a hammam near your stay that opens late fits into your holiday without disruption.
  • Real reviews: Google and TripAdvisor reviews give the most reliable picture.

Hotel Hammam or Independent Hammam?

Many large hotels have their own hammam; it is convenient, but appointments can be hard to get at busy times. Independent hammams and spas often offer more packages and longer hours. In a boutique hotel, guesthouse or apartment, an independent hammam may be your only option.

What Affects the Price of a Hammam?

Hammam prices in Antalya vary a lot, mostly because of what is included:

  • Total time: a 20-minute scrub and foam is not priced like a two-hour spa ritual.
  • Massage type and length: a short partial massage differs greatly from a 60–75 minute aroma massage.
  • Extras: a coffee scrub, face mask or aromatic oils add to the package.
  • Sauna and steam room: charged separately in some places; included in all our packages.
  • Transfers: tours with hotel pick-up include travel costs.

Compare total time and content, not just the price. See our detailed Kemer spa prices guide.

Tips for Before and After

  • Avoid a heavy meal just before; a light one is fine.
  • Tell us about any sunburn; the kese is never used on burnt skin.
  • Drink plenty of water during and after.
  • Avoid strong sun for a few hours after the scrub.
  • If you are pregnant or have a health condition, ask your doctor first.
